Description: In a shocking reversal of long-term established industry cost projection assumptions, the price of nearly all equipment has skyrocketed over the past year, creating unexpected headwinds for the solar and storage projects needed to meet policy goals. A perfect storm of covid-related manufacturing shortages, the imposition of tariffs, and the Department of Commerce antidumping investigation triggered cost increases that could reach 200-300% year-over-year. In response the Biden Administration is using executive orders and the Defense Production Act to accelerate the development of domestic supplies of solar and storage equipment, as well as a two-year waiver on solar product tariffs to avoid potential near-term disaster.
