Origis Energy USA has been ranked the second largest solar developer in the United States in Solar Power World’s annual Top 500 Solar Contractors list. The 2018 report was released on July 24.
The Top 500 Solar Contractors list is the most recognized annual listing of solar contractors in the United States working in the utility, commercial and residential markets. The 2018 results tally submissions from 450 contractors, ranked by kilowatts installed by market sector in 2017. Origis Energy and its EPC division, Origis Technics, ranked in several additional categories including #12 for all sectors (up from 41 in 2017) and the #1 contractor in Florida, where the company is based. Origis Energy USA developed 260,000 of total kilowatts (kWdc) installed in 2017 for the utility sector.
Origis Energy delivers clean energy solutions for utility, commercial and public sector clients. The Origis team has worked to ensure the interests of all stakeholders are upheld in more than 100 projects worldwide totaling over 1 gigawatt to date of developed solar capacity.

“We see increasing growth in C&I as well as utility offtake markets. Electricity procurement by corporations from large off-site solar facilities, through direct procurement or green sleeve/green tariff structures, represents the fastest growing strategic leg for future solar markets. For U.S. utility offtakers, we believe the fastest growing markets for the next three to five years will be the wider Southeast, Pacific, Texas and the Midwest. Texas will live up to its promising prospectus eventually. The Southeast should benefit from its major economic development efforts that seem to be successfully attracting new industrial investments from Fortune 500 corporations with clear sustainability and renewables targets.”

Largest Solar Facility East of Mississippi River
With the completion of Sumrall II/ MS Solar 3 for Cooperative Energy, the combined capacity of MS Solar 2 (Sumrall 1) and MS Solar 3 (Sumrall II) solar sites, at 144MWs DC, equals the largest solar facility east of the Mississippi River. Pictured in photo above.
Origis Energy Foundation
The company launched its philanthropic program, Origis Energy Foundation, which donated over $300,000 in the communities in which its solar projects are located. This initiative was featured in a Solar Power World article, Five companies spurring solar workforce development.
First Solar and Origis Energy Confirm 595 MW Module Sale Agreement
First Solar, Inc. (Nasdaq: FSLR) and Origis Energy completed a module sale deal totaling 595 Megawatts (MW)dc and spanning a three-year delivery date schedule. The agreement includes delivery of First Solar’s Series 4 modules in 2017 and 2018, as well as Series 6 modules in 2019 and 2020. The advanced technology thin film modules will be utilized in various projects throughout the United States in which Origis Energy is constructing solar sites.
Tallahassee Solar
The innovative City of Tallahassee Solar subscription program was supported by the Origis Energy team and by the end of the year, was oversubscribed. The Origis Energy 20 MW project located at the Tallahassee Airport was completed at the end of 2017. A waiting list for Tallahassee Solar II was started by the City to offer more ratepayers the opportunity to participate in the subscription program.
Reedy Creek Improvement District / Walt Disney World Orlando
Origis Energy and Reedy Creek Improvement District announced a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for a 50 MWACsolar facility to be constructed in Orange County, Florida. Once complete, the solar facility developed, built and owned by Origis Energy, will generate approximately 120,000 megawatt hours of power each year and provide clean energy to the Reedy Creek Improvement District. The project is a major new solar facility to service Walt Disney World Resort, powering two theme parks.
2018 highlights to date for Origis Energy:
First Community Solar + Storage Project in MA
Origis Energy and Sterling Municipal Light Department (SMLD) serving the Town of Sterling, MA, celebrated the completion of theSterling Community Solar + Energy Storage project. Representing the first community solar plus storage and the first operational solar plus storage installation in Massachusetts, the project couples a 1 MWACrooftop solar installation with a 1 MW/2 MWh energy storage system to deliver an annual base load of 1.7 MWh in dispatchable clean energy to the town’s ratepayers. It was developed and is owned by Origis Energy USA, delivering power and storage benefits to SMLD through a Power Purchase Agreement. It was built in three months.
Georgia Power “Green Tariff” Program
Georgia Power announced that its 30-year contracts to buy power from two large solar projects totaling 177 MW have been approved by state regulators, as a key step in the rollout of its commercial and industrial (C&I) program through its Renewable Energy Development Initiative (REDI). The company will be providing the electricity from the first 177 MW of projects to some of the same companies that have been among the top corporate adopters of solar – Google, Target, Walmart and Johnson & Johnson. The two plants which will supply this program are a 120 MW solar project which NextEra will build in Albany, Georgia, and a 57.5 MW project which Origis Energy will build in Camilla, Georgia. NextEra’s Dougherty Solar Facility is scheduled to be online by the end of 2019, and Origis’ Tanglewood Solar by the end of June 2020.
