Twiggs Solar is a 200 MWac solar project located in Twiggs County, Georgia, acquired by Origis Energy, operates under the Georgia Power Renewable Energy Development Initiative (REDI) Program.
In 2018 leaders representing the coalition of organizations contributing to the largest solar power plant in Georgia gathered to celebrate start of construction at Twiggs Solar. The ceremonial groundbreaking brought together state officials, Georgia Power, Georgia Public Service Commission, Twiggs County Commission, Origis Energy and First Solar, Inc. representatives to extoll the benefits of the 200-megawatt, GA Solar 4 project, located in Twiggs County, Georgia.
“Twiggs Solar will make a significant contribution to Georgia”, said Johan Vanhee for Origis Energy, owners of the plant. “Twiggs County leaders have worked closely with First Solar to make this project a reality. It will make a very strong positive difference in the area’s economic growth and long-term tax base. We thank all members of the team for their contributions to this solar milestone.”
Origis Energy acquired Twiggs Solar from First Solar in 2018.
The largest infrastructure project in Twiggs County at the time, the project created an estimated 400 construction jobs, ongoing tax revenues and long-term employment for technicians operating the plan.

A one-time $25,000.00 educational grant was donated by Origis Energy to A.S.P.I.R.E in Twiggs County, Georgia.

“We needed to make sure that we can provide to the Georgia rate payers, Georgia energy consumers, people of Georgia, [that] we can produce energy that makes economic sense. Meaning, that there’s a downward pressure on the energy prices in Georgia,” Johan Vanhee, Origis Energy.
In 2021 Origis announced a $25,000.00 educational grant to Origis Energy to A.S.P.I.R.E., a non-profit youth development and mentoring organization in Twiggs County, Georgia. A.S.P.I.R.E. focuses on competencies related to S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics).
Natacha Standaert, Origis Energy Philanthropic Initiative manager, said “Origis Energy is proud to support this worthy endeavor. Our goal is to contribute to the communities we serve. Youth development sponsorship is one of many ways we seek to partner and create value in the communities where Origis Energy has presence.”
All energy and renewable attributes of the project go to Georgia Power through Georgia Power’s Renewable Energy Development Initiative (REDI) Program, benefiting all Georgia Power customers.
